Planning the proposal
Edric reached out to me and asked me to help him plan and photograph his surprise Proposal in Málaga. Edric was taking his girlfriend Michelle on holiday Spain at Spain, but there was one issue. Michelle is the planner of the relationship, and she always organises their itinerary, so it had to be seamlessly integrated into her plans to not raise any suspicions.
When Edric told me that they were planning to go to the castle Gibralfaro close to sunset time. It was perfect, because close by there is a beautiful viewpoint over the city called Gibralfaro Mirardor.

The proposal
The idea was simple. I would be waiting at the Gibralfaro Mirador pretending to just take pictures of the view. When Edric and Michelle arrived, he would ask me to take a photo of them, using his phone. That way it would give me the excuse to put them in the perfect spot for the picture. Then he’d drop to one knee, and I could quickly switch to my real camera to capture the moment.
But it did not go as planned!
When they arrived, Michelle suggested a detour. “Let’s walk down this little path instead,”. She started walking away before Edric had the chance to object or ask me to take the picture. I could see the panic in Edric’s face, but I quickly signalled that it was all good and to just go with it.
I stayed on the platform above while they walked down the dirt path. From my vantage point, I could still see them. When Michelle turned away for a moment, I gave Edric the go-ahead. He got down on one knee. and she said yes!
And you know what? The spot was even better than the one I had picked out!

The couple’s session in Málaga.
It was now time for me to introduce myself, and let her know how we planned it all to surprise her. Michelle was so happy! We then transition into a relaxed couple’s session to capture more portraits of the newly engaged couple.
We utilised the the views over Málaga from the hill before starting to walk down into the centre. From there we stopped to take a few photos in Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso, before ending the session in front of Malaga Cathedral.
A funny little moment:
There were pigeons in the square in front of the cathedral, and a little girl was there playing with them alongside her father. I asked if she could help us out in creating an amazing photo. She ran behind Michelle and Edric, making the birds take flight. Creating this unique and spontaneous portrait. And no birds were harmed in the making of this memory!

Kind words
Aske was incredible in helping me plan and captured every moment. From the planning to the execution, everything was amazing. He was generous with his time and patient with me as I figure how the proposal process would go. He went above and beyond what I had expected.
