Planning the session
When Alexi & Julia was travelling to Spain from Canada, they wanted to take the opportunity to capture their engagement photos before there wedding back home.
From our first discovery call, I knew Alexi and Julia were more about emotion and connection than stiff touristy photographs. They wanted images that reflected who they are together and at the same time showing of the beauty of Málaga city.
So, I built a route and flow for the session that would provide us with stunning views and backdrops of the city.

Why Looking Away from the Camera Works
One thing I often talk about with couples is not always looking at the camera. In fact, I explained this in a short behind-the-scenes clip from this session.
We are so accustomed to looking at the camera, but what often happens is that it start to looked posed. Letting go of that reflex creates photos that feel far more intimate and real.
Gibralfaro viewpoints
We kicked things off at Gibralfaro Mirador, one of the most stunning viewpoints over Malaga. To stay fresh, I suggested they take a quick €5-10 taxi up instead of walking up the mountain (especially helpful on warmer days).
Exploring Màlaga
After capturing the views, we walked down toward the center of Malaga, where the Cathedral and Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso gave us a completely different vibe.
In Bloom: Jacaranda Trees at Plaza de la Merced
We couldn’t skip Plaza de la Merced, where the Jacaranda trees were in full bloom.
These amazing purble flowers is blooming all over Málaga in May and June, but Plaza de la Merced is one of my favourite places to see them.

F.A.Q
When is the best time for an engagement session in Malaga?
My favourite time is during the “Golden hour” Roughly two hours before sunset, is ideal for soft, flattering light. But the early morning light is also perfect!
What should we wear for our shoot?
Neutral and solid colors tend to photograph best against Malaga’s backdrops. Coordinate so that you complement each other without wearing the same colors, and avoid heavy logos or text that draw attention.
Do we need permits to shoot at public locations in Malaga?
No, for most public locations in Málaga do you not need a permit. I will make sure to research the location before each session, to ensure the legal aspect.
Can you help with location planning or styling?
Absolutely. I love helping couples tailor their shoot so it feels true to their vibe. From locations to outfit tips, I’ve got you covered.
How long should we plan for the session?
Two hours is perfect for covering 2–3 locations and catching multiple lighting scenarios without rushing.
