Even the best plans needs a plan D
When Jason first reached out to me, he had one clear vision for his proposal. He wanted a sea view, somewhere intimate, and a town that felt genuinely Spanish. When I showed him Nerja, he knew this was the right place to ask Taryn to marry him.
We worked out the details together, and even planned 2 backup locations, in case the first one was too crowded, when he arrived. But it would soon be apparent that even with plans A, B & C, sometimes you need plan D.
I arrived in Nerja an hour before the proposal to make sure everything was ready and good to go. And it was a good thing I did, because on the location we had chosen, there was scaffolding everywhere. Not exactly the romantic vibe I had in mind for them.
The bigger problem was that the construction was blocking the route to both plan B and plan C. We were starting from scratch with about an hour to the proposal time!
Nerja is a town I know well. I walked, looked around, and found a new spot. Sea view, quiet, no building work in sight. I filmed a short video showing Jason exactly how to get there and sent it straight to him.
He replied immediately. Completely calm. It turned out Taryn was taking her time getting ready, which gave him the window he needed to watch the video, learn the route, and show up looking like nothing had changed. He showed that he performs really well under pressure!
I got to the new spot and started getting into position, when two guys arrived and sat down to enjoy their lunch and judging from the smell of their “les than legal cigarettes”, they were planning to stay a while. I went over, explained the situation, and they could not have been more friendly. They packed up and moved without a second thought.
One minute later, Jason and Taryn arrived.
She had no idea I was there. As far as Taryn was concerned, she was just on her first holiday in Spain, taking in a beautiful view with her partner. And then he popped on one knee.
After that, we enjoyed the rest of the sunset with a photo session on the beach and around the town of Nerja.
